Why are SD cards so expensive ($30) as opposed to the old fashioned tape camcorder?

Tapes on my older camcorders ran from $2-$5 each. I've already depleted 2 SDHC cards (about $30 each) on my JVC Everio HD memory camera for about 2 hours of recordings.
