How do you foil pictures?

People sometimes make these at school/camp activities, but I have never seen how it's done. They take painting/photo prints in and do something to them with some sort of foil (aluminum?) that makes the pictures look really pretty and metallicy. I can't find any instructions or pictures of this on the internet. Does anybody know how to do this?
