How to cook over open flame while camping?

Friend and I will be going camping over the weekend, and we dont have a portable grill. The site has a fire pit, with metal grate. Can we use that? I have charcoal briquettes, newspaper,wood, cooking spray, alum foil, frying pan, and pot. Over the weekend we are looking to cook corn, potatoes, steak, eggs, chicken, and hamburgers. Thanks
